Mark Richt, new hire at Miami, won’t coach Georgia in bowl game

The university announced Thursday that it will introduce its new football coach at a press conference on Friday.

A UM spokesperson would not confirm the hire, citing an ongoing coaching search. Richt, 55, was a Hurricanes quarterback from 1978-82 and is a graduate of Boca Raton High.

Richt, who led Georgia to a 145-51 record in 15 seasons, will be the man to lead UM into the next era of Hurricanes football. Richt went 19-3 against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents when he was at Georgia, and Miami can only hope that trend continues.

UGA J. Reid Parker Athletics Director Greg McGarity has named assistant head coach Bryan McClendon, who also coaches wide receivers, as the interim head coach.
