Michael Douglas: I didn’t know who Ant-Man’s Paul Rudd was

Whatever it was, the end product is a mess of a movie. The Fantastc Four has been rumored to be a trainwreck but the latest trailers are helping turn that opinion around. I wanted to see more and will definitely watch this again in theaters.

Ant-Man is an entertaining but largely forgettable romp set on the peripheries of the rapidly expanding Marvel universe.

Actor Paul Rudd had to live on an almond a day to get into six-pack shape for his role in “Ant Man”.

For a film that had a troubled production, Ant-Man is thankfully enjoyable. It’s their first Legacy film. Michael Pena, who played Scott Lang’s side man, Luis, indeed helped the movie along with the delivery of his dialogue and his animated reactions. After 20 minutes of composition, Scott is shrunk down to the size of a bug and the action kicks in.

He even considered the movie’s love angle as “lame” and said of the climactic battle as lacking in emotional stakes that anyone watching would not be as thrilled as they expected to be. This is the first movie that is a hand off of a costume/hero from one to the next.

Some critics said that it was a bit light and didn’t provide enough thrills, which is unlike all the other movies about Marvel superheroes. And then, separate of that, when the dailies came in for the scene which is now the second tag, there was a moment that seemed to really complete the arc in our movie. And when it was getting close to too serious. a comedic beat would bring it back.

Corey Stoll is game for the part of protege, and eventual villain Yellow Jacket, but he isn’t given much to work with. We get to see the life of an ant to a degree. “We were at Disneyland like two days ago and they have kind of a sneak preview, the Ant-Man event that’s there, and we went there and I was sitting next to him, and to see like as a parent the look on my kid’s face when he’s watching this – and I’ll never forget”. Bullets the size of Buicks whizzing by him. It’s smart and amusing, with a great story and fantastic action.

Pratt made his blockbuster debut in last year’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”, before starring in this year’s record-breaking “Jurassic World“. After agreeing to do one more job, Scott finds himself in possession of a unusual suit, a suit which he stole from legendary scientist and original Ant-Man, Hank Pym. The ex-wife isn’t terrible, the new boyfriend isn’t a jerk… overall.

“I enjoyed the fact that when I was cast, people went, ‘huh, really?’ That you wouldn’t necessarily think that”, Rudd says. And the climactic fight scene – surely the one used in the initial Ant-Man pitch to the Disney big-wigs – involves a joyous scrap in a literal toy box, in which Thomas the Tank Engine is a deadly presence.
