Steph Curry steals spotlight on ‘Dell Curry Night’
To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has been named Western Conference Player of the Month for October/November.
November 29 @ L.A. Lakers: Shot 14-of-17 from the foul line and hit five three-pointers on his way to 39 points in a 107-103 win over the Lakers. He outscored his opponents 28-21 in that quarter and tied his career high for points in one quarter. He only played in 6 games last season after his breaking leg, and understandably didn’t look comfortable in those game.
It marked the fourth time this season Curry has scored 40 points by the end of the third quarter. “To do it in his hometown like this, 40 points in only three quarters”. His performance was so good that the crowd applauded.
Curry never played in the fourth quarter after Hornets coach Steve Clifford cleared his bench with about six minutes remaining.
George is one of only two players in the league averaging at least 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.
Well, as it turns out, Davidson has a policy that it will not retire a jersey number if the player has not graduated from the school. With the loss, Charlotte finished its season-long homestand with a 5-2 record (its only losses coming to last year’s finalists, Cleveland and Golden State) while the Warriors victory moved them to 20-0, lengthening their historic start to the 2015-16 National Basketball Association season. In fact, just days before the Charlotte game, Curry admitted he believes the Warriors will lose a game before the Carolina Panthers do, the football team now holding steady with a 15-game winning streak.
The night started with Klay Thompson scoring his first three shots.
The Hornets battled back with in 15 in the fourth but it just didn’t matter after Steph’s monster quarter.
Curry, who is majoring in sociology, according to his Davidson bio, led the mid-major Wildcats to the Elite Eight as the Cinderella of the 2008 NCAA tournament before falling to eventual champion Kansas. He hit 10 of 11 shots from the field, including all five 3s – many from well beyond the arc and in the face of a defender – to help the Warriors build a 21-point cushion. He is the Hornets’ all-time leader in games played (701), point scored (9,839), field goals (3,951), three-point field goals (929) and double-digit scoring games (592).
