Eagles of Death Metal To Join U2 On Stage In Paris
In another example of not letting the terrorists win, Eagles of Death Metal will finish the concert they had been playing when the Bataclan reopens and will perform in Paris this weekend. While it is still unclear whether or not EoDM’s guest appearance will appear in the airing, HBO is slated to air U2’s Paris performances as a live music special feature titled U2: Innocence + Experience Live in Paris.
The gig will also include Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, who co-founded Eagles of Death Metal, but was not onstage with the stars when armed terrorists stormed the band’s gig in Paris and opened fire, killing 89 people.
A source told Billboard that the band will perform with the Irish rockers that were supposed to play AccorHotels Arena on November 14 but cancelled the show due to the tragic events. “The best thing we could do for our fellow musicians was to buy them phones”, he explained to The New York Times. “I want to go back there and live”.
Among the 90 victims at the Bataclan on the fateful night was Eagle of Death Metal’s merchandise manager, Nick Alexander. “Our friends went there to see rock and roll and died”. In a radio interview Bono said: “Our security locked it down pretty quickly and we got our team and our crew out of there safely”.
Members of the band itself escaped shaken, but unharmed. Their cover of British new-wave band Duran Duran’s Save a Prayer, became a tribute to the Paris attacks, with all proceeds raised from the song directed to charity.
