President Obama: Overcoming Fear ‘Most Powerful Tool’ to Fight ISIS
President Barack Obama calls an overreaction to the Paris attacks launched by ISIS on on November 13 a bad thing. More recently, the militant group has started exporting violence outside its stronghold, radiating fears across the West. U.S. officials have said IS aspires to attack America but they have played down any specific threat.
The president spoke at the end of a nine-day trip to Turkey and Asia that has been overshadowed by the attacks in Paris – which killed 130 people and injured hundreds more – and at a hotel in Bamako, Mali and latterly a state of high alert in Brussels. The president and world leaders are set to gather in Paris next week for long-scheduled climate talks.
Over the years, our friends here in Asia have been victims of terrorism, and many of them are close counterterrorism partners with us, ” he said.
Approximately 66 percent think Obama has no clear plan for defeating the terrorist organization, according to the CBS News poll.
Obama is expected to meet with French President Francois Hollande at the White House on Tuesday to discuss the military campaign against ISIS.
According to Obama, ISIS tries to terrorize the United States into being afraid as they are aware they can’t beat it on the battlefield.
The perpetrators of the Paris attacks were not “masterminds” he said, but rather “a bunch of killers with good social media”. I now understand that the US will be accepting 10,000 or more refugees from Syria.
The rise of ISIS in Iraq and the resulting flood of refugees is a direct result of Obama’s policy.
“The question at this point is whether they can make the strategic investment”, Obama said, noting that recent Russian strikes haven’t targeted ISIL so much as groups that are fighting both Assad’s forces and ISIL, and that he believes Putin underestimated the threat of ISIL to Russians. We’re strengthened by people from every religion, including Muslim Americans.
“The American people are right to be concerned”, Obama said Sunday.
“With this holiday season coming up we want the public to continue to go to public events, celebrate the holiday season, travel, be with their families and the like”, Johnson said Sunday. And we can all do our part by upholding the values of tolerance and diversity and equality that help keep America strong, ” he said.
