All-Rodgers Hail Mary lifts Packers over Lions
If you’re still unpacking everything that happened in last night’s insane Packers/Lions game, I don’t blame you.
Water cooler talk has never been easier as we await the weekend.
Welcome to another edition of Highlight of the Week, where we feature videos of heart-stopping sports plays, such as last week’s CFL game-winning touchdown.
“You sat there and said, ‘There’s no way, ‘ but the untimed play, the fortuitous face mask penalty gave the Packers one more shot, and they got it done”.
The debacle on Thanksgiving night had Green Bay Packers fans asking themselves “Can it get any worse?”
Just as everybody had drawn it up, right? Richard Rodgers got position in a cluster of players – and with some Lions inexplicably playing behind him in the end zone – and made a leaping catch of a high, arching pass thrown by his quarterback. The answer, unsurprisingly, lies somewhere in the middle.
“And I think we played that way up until all of about a couple flashes of that ball game, ” Caldwell said. Safety Glover Quin came up from behind to try to make a play on the ball, and linebacker Tahir Whitehead jumped in from the side.
“It’s a close play, but even looking at the replay, the hand is up near the mask, the finger looks like it gets caught in the mask and the head gets turned”, Blandino said. Although, I still believe that the penalty was correctly called because he actually pulled the collar of Rodgers’ jersey when he swung him down. Well, whether it’s on the one or if it’s incomplete it doesn’t really matter at that point. You know, because the ball would be descending into the area needed to reach to end the game.
As fate would have it, Rodgers would throw the miracle pass on the very next play and every Lions fan was reflecting upon their life and how they became a fan of the Detroit Lions. It was, however, Richard Rodgers who had been the most alert among all the players scrambling in the field. However, Aaron Rodgers’ Hail Mary pass assured that they can finish. A spectacular TD catch by Calvin Johnson from 17 yards out would put the Lions up 17-0 in the first quarter.
“Defensively, it’s sort of the reverse of that”. What other play could he have run?
“I watched the first half, and I was like ‘Man, this is a blowout, ‘ so I went to sleep”, Dumervil said.
McCarthy went on to explain that many quarterbacks would have thrown a flatter ball in that situation. Instead the Jaguars were able to advance into field goal range on a penalty called on Ravens pass rusher Elvis Dumervil, then hit a 53-yard kick to win the game.
“Man, that’s something I don’t know about”, he said. “I just get the biggest kick seeing our guys, the joy they had and the excitement in the locker room, it was phenomenal”.
