Sanchez could have been killed, fumes Wenger
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that it is “possible” Santi Cazorla will be out until March with the knee injury he sustained against Norwich last weekend. We made some mistakes and that cost us the game.
Louis van Gaal will have to reinvent his attacking midfield as Ander Herrera is also injured and will be forced to put an attacking midfield player into the striker position to compensate for Rooney’s injury.
The French manager was cynical after the incident, claiming that the South American star could even have died in the accident. “It is absolutely unsafe to have a camera there”.
“Bennett did not need to push him like he did”.
‘He could have killed him. When he was pushed into the boards on the side of the field that did not shock anybody.
“Nobody suggests Alexis should have displaced his hamstring or back when he was pushed into the cameras on the side of the pitch”.
Despite his comments, Wenger could come under pressure from supporters to recruit during the January transfer market with his squad rocked by injuries.
Wenger was particularly taken to task for the recent injury to Alexis Sanchez, who came off with a hamstring injury against Norwich last weekend having complained of a similar issue against Dinamo Zagreb just days before. Sometimes you don’t know how bad it is.
Wenger understands that when the lateral ligament is only partially torn and is, effectively, still hanging on, it can pull and cause extreme discomfort whereas a complete rupture can lead to less stability in the knee but, strangely, less pain. Cazorla we wait to see the specialist. Alexis is a hamstring [injury] but I don’t know how long it will take, it is usually a quick one to recover.
“I spoke with him before the game and he was adamant that he could play”.
“I tested him before it and said, ‘If you have the slightest muscle problem tell me, I don’t play you.’ He said he had no problem at all, the tests were all positive”.
“We are not after John Stones”.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been quoted by saying by The Guardian that Cazorla could be on the sidelines until the final months of the season.
Although the return of Walcott arguably covers that loss to an extent, with Wenger losing his two central midfielders, he will have a tough time finding a new solution given the success that Cazorla and Coquelin enjoyed playing together.
