Tigers flawless after victory

Clemson Football’s Deshaun Watson submitted another standout performance for his Heisman resume, totaling 393 yards and scoring four TD’s against rival SC.

Watson had a 5-yard scoring run and threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Deon Cain to put the Tigers up 14-0 lead. Clemson will have the opportunity to establish the school record for wins in a season next week at the ACC Championship Game against North Carolina in Charlotte.

106 More points have been scored in the first quarter by Clemson than by SC this season. “We’ve got bigger things to do, we’ve got an ACC championship and we’ve got to play better, got a great North Carolina team waiting on us”. There are several guys on this defense that haven’t played this many snaps in their careers and are still learning every game.

Former Gamecocks quarterback Connor Shaw, one of the program’s most prominent alums, showcased his respect for his archrival and Watson on Twitter after the loss.

The days of Clemsoning are long gone for the Tigers, so SC has its hands full against a good Clemson defense.

This is just the second time Clemson has started a season 12-0.

Unfortunately, the Tigers were not able to maintain their momentum and South Carolina’s Elliot Fry hit a 21-yard field goal to make the game 14-3 at the half. But it’s going to take consistent efforts from Watson to help Clemson get to their 15th game of the year.

Watson finished the day 20 of 27 for 279 yards through the air and 114 yards and three scores on 21 carries. As South Carolina marched down the field on their second drive, Perry Orth’s pass intended for Jerell Adams was picked off by Adrian Baker inside the Clemson 5-yard line and returned six yards.

SC lost Steve Spurrier during the season and is just 3-8 overall. After rushing for 191 yards in his rivalry debut a year ago, Wayne Gallman went for 102 in his second go-round against the Gamecocks.

Give South Carolina credit.

With the win, Clemson and Swinney ended a three-game losing streak at Brice-Williams Stadium. Houston’s Greg Ward Jr. has three of each, but only two games with both 200 yards through the air and 100 on the ground.

Tar Heels coach Larry Fedora said his players have steadily built up confidence with each victory, something he expects to peak against the Tigers even with the odds stacked heavily against them.
