Man City’s Aguero and Hart could be fit for Stoke clash
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has refused to rule out the prospect of leading his side to a clean sweep of trophies this season ahead of their Premier League trip to Stoke, but he admits it’s not something the team are focused on.
The Chilean was also pleased to see playmaker David Silva make his first start since injuring his ankle while on worldwide duty with Spain on October 9.
“We are playing in other competitions with the same 13 or 14 players”, he noted.
City’s assault on all fronts received a sizeable boost with the news that prolific frontman Sergio Aguero and goalkeeper Joe Hart are in contention to return against Stoke on Saturday after heel and hamstring injuries respectively.
Hull manager Steve Bruce insists he has no regrets about his team selection after a much-changed side lost 4-1 at Manchester City in the quarter-final of the Capital One Cup.
“It’s most important. That’s what big players do and we’re happy to have him at this football club”.
Manchester City were far short of their finely-tuned best at home to Hull City, but still managed a comprehensive 4-1 victory while Everton won 2-0 at Middlesbrough and Stoke beat visitors Sheffield Wednesday by the same scoreline.
“We try to work, Not too hard because we don’t have time”.
Andrew Robertson tucked away an injury-time consolation for Hull. After such a decisive win under Jürgen Klopp, there is certainly a sudden possibility that Liverpool could very well go all the way in the League Cup to face the victor of Manchester City vs Everton.
The 21-year-old Spaniard broke the deadlock in the 20th minute at the Riverside Stadium, wriggling between two defenders and shaping a low shot into the bottom-left corner from the edge of the box. The Potters have developed a reputation of grinding out results, winning all of their league games this season by only a single goal. “I have absolutely no problems with a match against Everton”. There was never an easy one and Stoke will want (to reach) this final with everything they have.
The victor of each semi-final will then contest the final at Wembley on Sunday 28th February for the first silverware of the 2015/16 season.
But Pellegrini said: “We made the decision last year because we had three players injured and Kelechi (Iheanacho) was one year younger and he was not the player he is today”.
