Pelicans survive James’ big 4th in OT
One defensive miscue in the final seconds of regulation proved to be the downfall for the Cleveland Cavaliers in a 114-108 overtime loss to the New Orleans Pelicans at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans Friday night.
Davis scored six points in the extra period on three jumpers from beyond 12 feet to help the Pelicans pull out the victory. Eric Gordon had 19 points and Ryan Anderson 18 for the Pelicans, who led by 13 with less than seven minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Despite having a record of just 4-15 on the season, the Pelicans have what it takes to beat the Cavs at home, but I just can’t see LeBron being too happy about the way his team played in their last game so I’m expecting a big win here for Cleveland.
James had a chance to win it in regulation, but his shot clanked off the rim after the Pelicans tied the game at 105 on a 3-pointer by Jrue Holiday with 8 seconds left. James was sensational, but went scoreless in overtime before finishing with a game-high 37 points.
Davis’ 3-pointer, followed by Dante Cunningham’s long jumper pushed the Pelicans’ lead to 94-81 with 6:52 left – their largest of the night.
In Dallas, James Harden scored 25 points after another rough shooting start against the Mavericks, and the Rockets pulled out a victory.
Before returning to Cleveland ahead of the 2014-15 season, James played four seasons with Miami and won all two of his championships with the franchise.
Deron Williams had 22 points and six assists to lead the Mavericks.
The New York Knicks never looked back after opening up a 21-point first-quarter lead against the Brooklyn Nets, eventually coasting to a 108-91 triumph.
Kobe Bryant went four-of-19 from the field as his Los Angeles Lakers slumped to a 100-87 loss at the Atlanta Hawks.
Tristan Thompson had 10 rebounds, his career-high eighth straight game with at least 10.
The Pistons’ Greg Monroe had 14 points and 13 rebounds against his former team.
Wizards 109, Suns 106: Bradley Beal scored 34 points, and Ramon Sessions added 18 as Washington rallied to beat Phoenix.
Dirk Nowitzki had a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Mavs. He scored 17 points – and assisted on a Matthew Dellavedova 3-pointer – in a 20-4 run that put the Cavaliers in front 101-98 with 1:15 to play.
