Body of boy, 9, found at home at Mackenzie in Brisbane
He said family members were helping police with their inquiries.
Neighbours say the nine-year-old was part of a “completely normal and nice family”.
He said the boy’s father was “unknown”.
The sudden death of a 10-year-old Brisbane boy is being treated as suspicious after he was found unresponsive in his bed by relatives yesterday.
“His siblings are aware and the deceased child’s mother has been advised, however she doesn’t live with the deceased”, he said.
The boy was last seen alive at about 10.30am and was discovered at about 4.45pm at the home in Mackenzie, in the city’s south.
Forensic police remain at the address and child protection officers are involved in the investigation.
An investigation centre has been established at the south side police station.
The house has been cordoned off and declared a crime scene.
“The child was home alone with his carer, who is his aunt”, he said.
“We haven’t formally interviewed her, she is not under police guard but she is at the hospital”, he said.
“A post mortem examination is being conducted today (and) hopefully we will have some results later today and then we will look at toxicology”, he said.
The boy’s mother was believed to be the only person at home and she was taken to hospital for an unrelated medical condition.
“We have to determine the child’s cause of death in relation to any charges”.
A young boy has been found dead inside his home with a number of bruises reportedly on his body.
