British bombers hit oil field targets in Syria for second time
Today two more Tornados and six Typhoons arrived at the Cyprus base, adding to the eight Tornado GR4 craft already there.
He thanked military personnel, saying they had the “backing of the government and the people”.
Four Tornados took off from the Royal Air Force (RAF) base in Akrotiri, Cyprus, shortly after the House of Commons vote gave the go-ahead for Britain to assist in the US-led bombing of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). “Last night saw the full force of the RAF”.
MPs voted in favour of extending air strikes against Islamic State into Syria on Wednesday night, with the first bombing campaign taking place just hours later. It’s because of who we are in Britain and the West that we have this particular death cult.
“We are going to use force against them in the headquarters, their command and control, their logistics, but also in the infrastructure that supports them”. Two GR4s flew an armed reconnaissance patrol over eastern Syria, gathering intelligence on terrorist activity.
“We need the office of the leader of the Labour Party to say Momentum is nothing to do with us, it’s nothing to do with the Labour Party”, former shadow cabinet minister Tristram Hunt told Channel 4 News.
It is instructive that its first air strikes were directed against ISIS oil extraction and refining installations, which provide the terrorist group with most of its revenue.
That comes as Russian Federation continues to carry out an independent air campaign in Syria, which it steadfastly maintains is aimed at Daesh and other terrorist groups, but which the U.S.-led coalition has said is targeting foes of Moscow’s Syrian ally, President Bashar al-Assad.
“We have been able to push back ISIL from territory that we had taken, but in Iraq and Syria and we are developing partnerships – although they are not as strong as we want yet – with local tribes and Sunnis who are willing to fight ISIL”, Mr. Obama said.
During the mission across Iraq, a terrorist sniper team opened fire on Iraq forces from a compound but was silenced by a direct hit from a Paveway IV guided bomb, the MoD said. “I can confirm that British tornadoes were in action attacking oil fields in eastern Syria…and were successful”, he said.
At the same time, an unmanned Reaper drone destroyed an IS truck-bomb with a Hellfire missile south of Sinjar in Iraq.
British Prime Minister David Cameron says that British air strikes on the targets of ISIL militants also known as Daesh in Syria will help to bring about a political settlement in the long term.
