Bowling Green coach Dino Babers expected to become Syracuse coach
In four seasons as a head coach, including Eastern Illinois (2012-13) and Bowling Green (14-15), Babers is 37-16.
“It is a true honor to have been selected to lead Syracuse University football, a program steeped in rich tradition, excellence, and success, both on and off the field”, said Babers in a release from the school.
Babers has coached Bowling Green to an 18-9 mark in two years at the school, including a 10-3 mark this season.
Bowling Green coach Dino Babers is working out the final details to become Syracuse’s head coach, according to a source. But it’s always good to get a more concrete report.
Babers, who would be Syracuse’s first black head coach, would take over for Scott Shafer, who was sacked on November 23 after Syracuse fell to North Carolina State, the Orange’s eight straight defeat after opening the season with three consecutive wins. “This is an incredible opportunity and one I am thrilled to have been offered”.
Babers brought a high-powered offense to Bowling Green with the Falcons averaging 566 yards and 44.2 points per game this season. “We are committed to building a winning Syracuse Football program and today reinforces that commitment”. He coached the Falcons to a 34-14 win over Northern Illinois in the MAC Championship game Friday.
He is known for his offensive acumen – he worked for Art Briles and runs an offense based on Baylor’s – and he has a deft hand as a quarterbacks coach.
