Kargil braveheart or ISI agent? Delhi Police arrests Munawwar Ahmad Mir for
The Delhi Police said the team of Inter State Cell of Crime Branch had gone to Jammu and Kashmir in search of other persons involved in this racket when they arrested Munawwar Ahmad Mir, a retired havildar of the Indian Army.
Police said the two accused will be brought to Delhi for further interrogation after getting transit remand from the concerned court in Jammu and Kashmir.
Khan was allegedly working for ISI on pretext of monetary benefits.
Kafaitullah was arrested at the Jammu railway station on November 26 when he had boarded a train for Bhopal.
Similarly, the Delhi Police team conducted a raid and arrested a retired Naib Subedar Munawar Hussain from Thanamandi area (Rajouri) yesterday (on Friday). Soon some agitated locals gathered and allegedly started obstructing the police team, said the official.
However, these details are to be cross-examined with the ongoing probe in which it has emerged that Khan allegedly used to receive money from Pakistan via money transfers from overseas.
Sources said Mir has “good contacts” with an MLA in Jammu & Kashmir’s Rajouri.
Sources say Mir has denied being part of the spy network and claimed that he is being wrongly implicated. The interrogation of Mir and Sabar may lead them to the alleged ISI source in the office of the Pakistan High Commission here, the source said.
Khan was a Pakistan Intelligence Operative (PIO) running a spy racket allegedly backed by the ISI, said police.
The police said Kafaitullah was already in touch with Abdul Rasheed, who is his relative. He was booked under provisions of the Officials Secrets Act, said a senior police official.
Abdul Rashid, a serving BSF constable arrested in the case, in New Delhi on Monday.
