Three share lead at Hero World Challenge
“For the majority of the round, until (hole) 15, we had as scoreable conditions as possible”, Spieth told Golf Channel.
Jordan Spieth and Bill Haas came into the second round just one shot back and after shooting a 6-under 66 they are 11-under for the round and share the lead with J-Walk.
There were eight players tied for the lead at one point on Friday, but Haas was the only other one to remain there with impressive approach play seeing him join the world number one on 11 under for the two days.
“I can certainly improve in spots of my game”, he said after his 67, which had him a stroke off the lead among the early finishers, tied with Bubba Watson, Bill Haas and Australian Adam Scott, behind Zach Johnson and Jimmy Walker on six under.
He converted a sublime approach to four feet at 13 and splashed out of a cavernous bunker to within a foot of the cup for another birdie at 14, and he did well to get up and down for par at the last following a wayward second to the run-off area.
“I started hitting it a little bit better….”
Spieth got off to a slow start as he was 1-over after five holes, but as usual, Spieth turned things up as he birdied the next three holes in a row and he followed that up with an eagle on eleven and a couple of more birdies on thirteen and fourteen. It was a 6-iron like 175-ish playing about 10 yards further with the wind so I needed to take a little off of it. Absolutely flushed it right at the hole and didn’t think it went in. “But on the golf course, I’m still getting as intense and upset and highs and lows that I experience at a normal PGA Tour event”.
American Peter Uihlein (67) was tied for second with England’s Mark Foster (73), South Africa’s Zander Lombard (75) and Dylan Frittelli (72), Australia’s Matthew Millar (70) and Spain’s Pablo Martin Benavides (67).
“I know that I’ve won on the PGA Tour, probably the strongest tour in the world and I know I can do it”, Lingmerth said.
“I’m going to have to play very well to win but I do feel like I should have a good shot”. We need to close some tournaments off..
“I believe I can get better certainly in different specific parts of my game and I can grow mentally as a player as well”.
