United Kingdom jets carry out second Syria strikes
Hours after that approval, British bombers struck the oilfields that the government says are being used to fund attacks on the West.
Eight attacks were carried out in the latest mission and first reports suggest they were successful, the MoD said.
The ministry said an unmanned Reaper drone also destroyed an IS truck-bomb south of Sinjar.
Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has been visiting the airbase: “That’s a pretty impressive achievement I mean they only arrived here the previous day, a long flight down from Scotland”.
“Airstrikes can make a difference in starting to squeeze ISIL Daesh back into its heartland, reduce its ability to resupply and reinforce over in Iraq and to cut off its sources of revenue”.
Targets in the second mission were oil fields as the first target, and the mission involved two Typhoons and two Tornados, Xinhua news agency reported citing BBC.
“In the hundreds of air strikes that the RAF has carried out in Iraq, we have had absolutely no civilian casualties reported”, Group Captain Richard Davies, Tornado pilot and station commander at RAF Marham, said in a statement. The RAF has been conducting air strikes on IS targets in Iraq since 2014.
