Clemson’s Swinney promises Sunday pizza party for top-ranked Tigers – win or
It was September 27, 2014, and Watson’s first collegiate start. It still stands as the most touchdowns passes he has thrown in a single game. But this time around, UNC heads into the game with a defense that’s improved under the leadership of new defensive coordinator Gene Chizik, who’s in his first year at North Carolina.
Smith said the Heels will have to be at the top of their game if they want to win.
“Obviously we’re excited for the team”, Sutliff said. “We’re gonna have a DJ, we’re gonna have a heck of a time”, he said.
There are quarterbacks with bigger numbers on teams with more prolific offenses – Patrick Mahomes II at Texas Tech, Baker Mayfield at Oklahoma and Chad Kelly at Ole Miss – but its doubtful any of them are as smooth and relaxed.
Then, of course, there’s current No. 1 Clemson.
After missing action in the previous three games, redshirt sophomore guard Tyrone Crowder returned last week and played 54 snaps, clearing the way on one of Watson’s scores. He’s got weapons all over the field.
Swinney’s teams holds a slight edge going into the matchup, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be easy. “But we’re not anxious about anything that happened past year”. Gates will open at 11 a.m. if the Tigers win and the party will run from 2 p.m to 4 p.m. If they lose, gates open at 2 p.m. with the party running from 3 p.m.to 5 p.m.
So far, the Tigers have played 12 games and they’ve won them all.
While the Tar Heels’ defense has improved, so has Watson and the Clemson offense.
Clemson’s memorable 2015 season has included wins over No. 6 Notre Dame and No. 16 Florida State. The Tigers average over 500 yards and just under 38 points per game. He’s wise beyond his years. Swinney said Wednesday he expects McCloud to play. “He’s up for the Heisman, but that’s the big thing we like”. ” just tell the guys, ‘I let you down that first one, but I’m going to get us back and we’re going to have some fun during the second one'”. “He’ll be fine. I don’t think (the injury hampered him)”. “That’s why we’re 12-0”.
However, as we have learned multiple times this season, it only takes one game to derail a player’s Heisman hopes, with LSU running back Leonard Fournette’s 31-yard dud of a performance against Alabama earlier in the year most notably coming to mind. “A very talented person. It’s going to interesting to watch him play live Saturday”.
He went through some injury woes a season ago but, nonetheless, Watson’s trajectory, if represented in graphic form, would like a successful company’s stock report: an arrow soaring diagonally to the right in mostly a straight line. “Because you’re so competitive”.
