Ratings Hit The Wiz Live! Sets Rebroadcast Date
In the key demo of adults 18-49, the live musical scored a 3.4 rating, which is almost triple NBC’s season average rating on Thursday nights (excluding sports) and beat “Peter Pan” (2.4) by 42 percent.
Apparently viewers would rather spend their night with Uzo Aduba, Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, and the rest of the star-studded cast, instead of watching Christopher Walken’s cringe-worthy Captain Hook dance sequence.
“If you run into any racists today yelling and moaning about this all black version of The Wizard of Oz that NBC seemingly pulled out of its ass and you really want to piss them off?” “The Sound of Music Live!” had great numbers in kicking off this trend, but most of the reviews were tepid at best.
But it was nowhere near the 18.6 million who dashed through the Alps with Carrie Underwood on “Sound of Music Live!”, which kicked off NBC’s live-musical journey in 2013.
Shanice Williams absolutely nailed her performance as Dorothy in NBC’s The Wiz Live! which aired on December 3, 2015. Charlie Smalls’ score includes “Ease on Down the Road”, “No Bad News” and “Home”.
Nielsen also said that 1.6 million individual tweets were sent out about the broadcast – far more than the previous two musicals, which both generated between 400,000 and 500,000 tweets.
As anyone with a pulse should have expected, NBC’s The Wiz Live! was a huge hit.
