Mauricio Pochettino ‘happy’ for Tottenham to be talked about as Premier League
Tottenham Hotspur travel to West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on Saturday, 5 December as the north London club look to build on their brilliant form in the league over the past month.
But Tony Pulis’ side, who beat Arsenal in their last game here, did not take going behind lightly, with Stephane Sessegnon taking the fight to Spurs in surging runs down West Brom’s right.
West Brom had been playing well in their last few games, winning three and drawing one in their previous six outings.
“I sent a text to him to wish him all the best because he is my colleague”, Pochettino said.
Following their opening day defeat away to Manchester United, Pochettino’s men are unbeaten in the league and find themselves in fifth place with 25 points under their belt. I don’t have an agent so he offers me a contract and I say yes, no, or I want more.
“But we’re all happy because the players needed to rest”.
‘Before all I heard was he sacked managers and was very tough, ‘ Pochettino said. “It’s good you get the feeling that we are a bigger club than Chelsea”, crowed the Argentine. “He is an outstanding player but we have not had him at the same level as before all this happened”. “We have a talented group and we want to improve, to play better, and win these types of games”.
“I know very well Valencia and Spanish football but he is capable of managing Valencia”.
“The coaches have been telling him [McClean] to get inside full-backs when crosses come in”, said Pulis. We have that ability to take the game to good teams and to have the character and confidence to do that is very pleasing. We are trying to follow players now but it is very hard.
In defence, Jan Vertonghen continues to show good positional awareness; in midfield Mousa Dembele is attracting attention because of his multi-faceted approach in defence, dribbling and passing while Harry Kane in attack is flourishing after a mild barren run at the beginning of the campaign. One Spurs legend who has played for both clubs, Teddy Sheringham, believes that Kane should actually make the switch to join the Red Devils at Old Trafford…
Kemp also reserved praise for scorer McClean who netted his first goal for the club since a summer move from Wigan.
