At least 36 dead in bombing raids in eastern Syria-monitor
Last month, Russian warships in the Caspian Sea fired cruise missiles almost 1,500 kilometers (930 miles) over Iran and Iraq.
ISIS controls nearly all of Syria’s oil fields, concentrated in the east of the country, producing some 30,000 barrels a day, along with one field in Iraq.
Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said that more than 600 rebels had been eliminated as a result of cruise missile strikes at targets in Syrian Deir ez-Zour province.
Russian politicians have said the Paris attack underscores the need for the West and the Kremlin to bury their differences and join forces to take on militants in Syria.
The pilots also wrote “For ours” and “For our people” on some missiles before sending them to Syria, with targets including the Raqqa province where the terror group Islamic State has been frequenting recently.
Lebanon said Friday it was preparing to re-route flights from Beirut airport after Russian Federation requested they avoid an area over the eastern Mediterranean because of three days of military manoeuvres.
The BBC’s Steve Rosenberg in Moscow says that in the Russian defence ministry video soldiers can be seen writing messages on the bombs before loading them onto the aircraft – phrases like: “This is revenge for our dead” and “This is for Paris”.
Russian Federation has also given the United States advance notice in the past week of actions involving cruise missiles and long-range bombers that crossed Iranian and Iraqi airspace into Syria, the official said.
Earlier this week Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged to hunt down and “punish” those behind a bomb attack that brought down a passenger jet over Sinai last month, killing all 224 people, mostly Russian holidaymakers, on board.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry have talked by phone to discuss the need for joint efforts to combat Islamic State in Syria.
The bomb is now waiting to be dispatched from Syria and follows the news that Isis were responsible for last week’s Paris attacks as well as the Russian plane crash in Egypt.
