Ringo Starr’s drum kit fetches £1.4m at U.S. auction
He has reunited the Beatles, sort of.
“Finally, after 45 years, the Beatles are together again”, the text read.
Meanwhile, Irsay soon could be giving his head coach and/or G.M. the Pete Best treatment. It followed a sale on Friday of one of Starr’s early drum kits for $2.2 million to Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay.
The two-day auction, which began on Thursday, included more than 800 items owned by Starr and his wife, actress Barbara Bach.
The drum kit was also used by Sir Paul on his first solo album, McCartney.
According to Martin Nolan, Executive Director of Julien’s Auctions, the legendary kit has been out of the public eye for 50 years.
A drum kit Ringo Starr used to record some of the Beatles’ early hits has sold for US$2.2 million (RM9.3 million) at a Beverly Hills auction.
Starr, now 75, used the kit in more than 200 performances between May 1963 and February 1964.
Irsay is a huge music fan and an avid collector.
It must be because it’s a very special vinyl as it’s the first ever to be pressed with # 0000001 printed right on it. It was revealed recently that The Beatles all got the first four pressings of the album and Starr just happened to snag the first ever. Part of the proceeds go to the couple’s Lotus Foundation, which supports charitable projects aiming to advance social welfare.
