Warriors improve to 20-0 behind Curry’s 40 points
If you’ve ever read DIME before, we don’t really need to tell you this, but Steph Curry is making the NBA – the best basketball league in the world – look like the over-45 group at the local YMCA.
Curry did not play in the fourth quarter, something we are now used to seeing since the Warriors are winning easily.
Curry, the son of Dell, who retired as the Hornets’ all-time leading points-scorer, poured in a sensational 40 points, including 28 in the all-important third quarter which ultimately decided the outcome of the contest. He hit 10 of 11 shots from the field, including all five 3s to help the Warriors build a 21-point cushion.
Curry said he promised his coach (Bob McKillop) he would complete his courses, and he said that he’ll get started on that when he can.
Newton and the Panthers aren’t doing so bad themselves, sitting ideal at 11-0 one game away from clinching a playoff spot and a third consecutive NFC South championship. 2015 NBA Champion and MVP Stephen Curry played at Davidson for three seasons from 2006-2009 and forwent his senior season to enter the 2009 NBA Draft, where he was selected No. 7 overall by the Golden State Warriors. A Southern Conference game between Davidson (5-0) and Charlotte would not normally get any media attention, but because Curry was in the building there were cameras everywhere and the game’s highlights were actually featured Sportscenter. Klay Thompson scored the first seven points for the Warriors, and it was off from there.
“He didn’t make any guarantees”, Curry said with a smile. “I think I got a little spark from my dad’s ceremony and it might have gotten me going”. Former college player of the year Jimmer Fredette had 22 points and nine assists after a 37-point debut Monday, while Knicks forward Cleanthony Early had 16 points and nine rebounds. They only need three more victories to tie the 2012-2013 Miami Heat and nine more to tie the Los Angeles Lakers for the longest undefeated run. “For him to be here and be a part of this, and the way they are playing, makes it extra special”.
Curry is putting up video game numbers, averaging 32 points in 34.3 minutes per game. Frankly, we didn’t play that well.
Despite missing the inside presence of center Al Jefferson – out at least two weeks with a strained left calf – and 0-for-8 shooting from Kemba Walker in the first half, the Hornets fought back to cut the lead to 60-51 at the break. The star point guard closed the quarter with a 30 foot three pointer.
