Leytonstone Tube station stabbing treated as “terrorist incident”
Officials are investigating what they say may be a possible “terrorist incident” in a London Tube station, where three people were stabbed Saturday evening, NBC News reported.
Police said they were called at 7.06pm to reports that a number of people had been stabbed at the station and a man was threatening people with a knife. One suspect was arrested after a man was seriously injured and two others hurt.
One man suffered serious knife injuries and was in the hospital in stable condition.
Head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, Commander Richard Walton, confirmed that the police are treating the incident as a case of a “terrorist attack”, according to Metro.
Britain is on its second-highest alert level of “severe”, meaning a militant attack is considered highly likely.
“Then within around ten minutes police arrived and cordoned off the station”.
While he did not know the circumstances of the incident, Mr Duncan Smith said it was important people were not deterred from going about their normal business by the fear of groups like Islamic State which he described as “fascist”. Police declined to comment on those reports and it was not immediately possible to verify them independently.
“As I walked down I just saw a lot of people running but I ignored it and kept walking to get my train, but suddenly what I saw I couldn’t believe my eyes and what I saw was I guy with a knife and a dead guy on the floor”.
It is not yet clear if the witness’ description of the “dead guy” on the floor is accurate, considering police did not confirm any casualties.
“I was so scared I ran for my life”. “The Guardian cited a person who claimed to be a witness as saying that the assailant yelled “‘This is what happens when you f*** with mother Syria all of your blood will be spilled'”. Two other people had minor injuries, police said. He dropped the knife and one of the officers kicked it out of his way.
The Tube, also called the London Underground, is the city’s subway system.
The hashtag #YouAintNoMuslimBruv was trending on Twitter on Sunday morning.
Social media users pounced on the phrase, with many praising the man who said it.
“Another called Jackie Nn wrote: “#youaintnomuslimbruv- soo proud to be a Londoner.
“Chris Lowndes wrote: “£YouAintNoMuslimBruv is just ideal – real, inclusive, undermines terrorist cause”. “Peace to true Muslims”.
