Howe hails biggest result in Bournemouth’s history
Bournemouth have struggled to find any consistency since arriving in the Premier League over the summer, but a spirited performance last time out saw them secured a dramatic 3-3 draw with Everton.
AFC Bournemouth match-winner Glenn Murray feels his team had the ideal game-plan in their shock 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
“And we’ve talked about that all season, trying to score more goals from corners and set pieces where you need to scramble out a 1-0 win and that’s how it worked out in the end”.
“First half I thought it was quite even. Second half we’ve come under some pressure, we’ve had to dig in, we’ve had to defend, bodies on the line”.
Arter told Cherries Player: “A lot of people have spoken about changing the way we play and every great team never changes the way they play if they’ve had a few indifferent results. It was more hard for us but we hung in there and didn’t concede which was crucial”. But we saw it out and nicked the goal to thankfully get a much-needed three points.
“We tried to impose ourselves on Chelsea”.
The Cherries boss said of his third-choice keeper and young Holmes: “Ryan is a goalkeeper that has had some good experiences in his career but nothing like this – it will be a big test”.
Howe, however, is remaining positive and said: “Whenever you get injuries it’s a test, it’s a challenge to adapt”.
Howe, meanwhile, disagreed with Jose Mourinho’s view that Chelsea should have had a penalty when a Diego Costa cut-back hit Simon Francis on the arm.
Howe said the result meant even more for the Cherries given the injuries to key personnel this season.
“I think Simon’s committed to his slide”, Howe said. “His arm’s there, it’s not moved towards the ball”. It’s only one game but does give us a huge boost going into the Christmas period.
It doesn’t get any easier for Bournemouth, though, as Howe’s side next face Manchester United in a weeks’ time.
