Coldplay To Perform at the Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show
A statement on the band’s website says: “We’re very excited to report that Coldplay will headline the prestigious Pepsi Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show on February 7, 2016 in Santa Clara, California”.
The Super Bowl, which marks its 50th anniversary next year, is one of the “must see” events with U.S. audiences. The NFL said the Super Bowl 50 halftime show is still being planned and there will be multiple acts.
The four-piece follow Katy Perry’s popular effort, while other artists to have performed in recent years include Beyonce, The Who, Madonna and Prince. In this series fans will be able to see the creative processes of the seven-time Grammy Award-winning band Coldplay as they design their stage and show and prepare for America’s favorite sports event.
This represents a turn back to the run of halftime shows of rock acts following Janet Jackson’s 2004 wardrobe malfunction. The band has decided not to make their new album available on “Spotify”, as it provides a free service to all its 80 million users.
Coldplay’s seventh album, A Head Full of Dreams, is out today on Parlophone and Atlantic Records. It was also, by far, the biggest televised music event of the year. The NFL, however, does pick up all costs associated with the show, according to NFL spokeswoman Angela Alfano. It’s likely they’ll perform a couple of songs from the new album at the show.
Overall, music continues to be an important part in the Super Bowl equation.
The entire world watches the game, and as the quintessential American event, you’d think that the talent booked to play the Halftime show would also be American. The Super Bowl and Halftime Show will be broadcast worldwide from Levi’s Stadium in the San Francisco Bay Area.
