Miami bank robber killed in cold blood by cops
A suspected bank robber, allegedly armed with a razor, was shot and killed outside a Miami Beach, Florida, barber shop, police said.
The unidentified man held up a Bank of America around 10:30 a.m., officials told NBC Miami.
Witnesses said they could see the man causing a commotion inside the barber shop.
Police started looking for the man after a report of a bank robbery, police Chief Daniel Oates said at a press briefing.
The suspect then “emerged with a straight edge razor in his hand”, Prieto said.
Police could not immediately verify if officers fired a Taser during the encounter.
The video shows a shirtless man confronted by several police officers. The suspect was apprehended by police who were at the scene within seconds of the incident. “As we learn more about this incident from Miami-Dade police, from the state attorney’s office, we will make sure to keep everyone informed”. She said he is a six-year veteran of the Miami Beach police force, but did not identify him. Other witnesses said that they initially saw what appeared to be a pen sticking out of the neck of the woman who was stabbed.
An apparent video of the shooting was circulated on social media after Marcellus Johnson, an event photographer, posted it to his Instagram account.
“I looked to my left and there was a guy inside of the barbershop… and he was banging on the window with a sharp object, maybe a knife or so”, Johnson said.
“He started moving a little bit towards them”, Johnson said.
Dsoto said she saw the man with the weapon.
“It’s a awful, an isolated incident and it’s tragic for everybody involved”, Mayor Philip Levine said. “When he puts his hand on the police auto, he said something”.
Alton Road between 15th Street and 16th Street was closed while police investigated.
The Miami Beach police department has announced an initiative to place body cameras on all police shortly, and we will follow up to see if these officers were wearing body cameras at the time of the shooting.
“It went boom-boom, twice”, Rodriguez said.
