Temple out-gained Houston and had more first downs, but converted just 6-of-18 third and fourth down tries.

All season long teams battle it out to win a conference championship and that is what took place on Saturday at TDECU Stadium on the campus of University of Houston as the 22 ranked Temple Owls take on the 19 ranked Houston Cougars in the 1 ever American Athletic Conference Championship game. “We had a couple plays get away from us”. The Owls will find out which bowl game they play in tomorrow.
After the game, head coach Tom Herman talked about the win and how his team played. “These kids haven’t been to a bowl game yet”.

Houston (12-1) jumped to a 17-0 lead with the help of two turnovers by Temple, one capped by a 47-yard touchdown run by Ward. “We played really good defense at times, but he was just a difference maker, which he has been all year”. Temple LB Stephaun Marshall got the key stop on the drive, as he tackled Demarcus Ayers causing him to drop what would have been a first down conversion.
Junior quarterback P.J. Walker threw for 287 yards and one touchdown on 26-of-44 passing for the Owls (10-3). 10 plays later, Javin Webb ran the ball from a yard out to put the Cougars on top. The first one came when he grabbed an 11-yard reception with one hand and the second one was a 14-yard gain that came after the ball was deflected by a Houston defender. “We are now performing an investigation of the events and will take appropriate action based on the outcome of our investigation”. It looked as if the Coogs were about to force Temple into a 3 and out themselves, but a pass interference call from an otherwise forgiving AAC crew give the visitors new life.
Kansas State 24, West Virginia 23: Wide receiver Cody Cook led Kansas State to a pair of touchdowns as the emergency quarterback, Morgan Burns returned a kickoff 97 yards for the go-ahead score and the Wildcats (6-6, 3-5 Big 12) became bowl-eligible by defeating the Mountaineers (7-5, 4-6) at Manhattan, Kansas.
Houston had a 0-for-4 third down conversion rate in the second half after going 5-of-10 in the first half.
