LSU AD: Miles will return as coach

It would have been quite a send-off, except LSU’s administration doesn’t want him going anywhere after all.

In reality, there were essentially three categories of LSU fans: those who absolutely wanted Miles gone, those who appreciated Miles’ contributions to the program but thought it was time for change, and those who believed Miles deserved at least another year.

Initial reports said that Miles told boosters that this would be his last game, but those reports were quickly refuted, as Miles’ comments were apparently misinterpreted. I am looking forward to working with coach Miles as he leads this team to a bowl game and another great recruiting class. Les and I have talked.

“We didn’t play very smart tonight”, said Sumlin, who dropped to 0-4 against LSU since the Aggies joined the Southeastern Conference in 2012.

The outcome of Saturday’s game had no impact on Miles’ future, Alleva said in a one-word answer to a reporter.

Alleva, LSU president F. King Alexander and Miles met in the coach’s private locker room at Tiger Stadium following the victory.

“We’re a talented football team”.

And outside of a hard-fought regular season win at Tuscaloosa in 2011, the times that Miles has managed to beat Saban hasn’t meant all that much in the bigger picture. “I agree with Joe”.

SEC Network’s Maria Taylor then began her postgame interview with him, but he stopped her so he could sing the LSU alma mater with his players – which was captured by Taylor’s microphone and the network’s cameras.

LSU QB Brandon Harris was 7 of 21 for 83 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. Victory is nice, especially three weeks late.

“The motor seems to be pretty stinking strong”, Miles said of Fournette. “It was hard for everybody”. When that was done, Miles gushed about his players’ performance, the support of the fans, and his love for LSU.

Many fans and insiders want Miles to shift to more of a spread offense in the future. Did LSU back down when it became clear they couldn’t get Jimbo Fisher or a replacement of a similar caliber?

FootballScoop.com, a Baton Rouge-based group that closely monitors college football coaching turnover, reported that Miles likely would remain at LSU with a win over A&M. But the coach is always gracious to Castillo, often times making a point to acknowledge him first before an opening statement.

Inside Death Valley before kickoff, the crowd roared when Miles was introduce during Senior Day ceremonies. The coach tipped his trademark baseball cap to acknowledge the crowd, raising the volume a little more.

Miles overall record improved to 111-32.

Yet, some of the very aspects of LSU’s game that have bothered Miles’ critics showed up again.
