Salvation Army collects toys for local children in 12-hour toy drive
Since 2005, the Detroit Red Wings has raised more than $100,000 for The Salvation Army.
In this modern day and age it seems like there should be an easier way to collect the donations that fund The Salvation Army’s local emergency assistance services, providing help with necessities like rent, mortgage and heating.
There are public trees at Midway Mall, the Wal-Marts in both Sherman and Denison, Old Navy, Walgreens and Tangels Hair Design in downtown Sherman. He shared his story from when he was a child in Sanford, Maine, with the Salem Gazette.
“I started saving six months ago and putting toys on lay-by”, she said.
“This year the Sutton Coldfield shop has gone to town on its Christmas displays and there are some wonderful gems to be found. We find Christmas themed donations and decorations are often almost brand new, so whether it’s a set of mix-and-match baubles, a Christmas jumper, or even a reindeer onesie, there will be something for everyone!” “Events like this help us meet the needs, but we still have a ways to go to have enough”. If somebody asked me for a buck, I’d have to go the bank to see if I could get some money out. “I got the greatest gift ever given”. “I hope they inspire many others to follow in their footsteps”.
Individuals not able to visit a kettle can donate online at www.onlineredkettle.org, calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY or by sending a check written to the Salvation Army at 171 E. 4th St.in Chillicothe.
Angel Trees are at center court of University Mall and participating Chick-fil-A restaurants, Alderson said. Items can be returned to those locations.

It’s convenient, sure, but that would deprive Betty Barrett of the frozen-face-to-frozen-face time she enjoys with donors during kettle season.
Salvation Army administrators also said the organization will never call asking for money, and the mailer it sends out for donations is clearly identified.
