John Terry injury: Jose Mourinho says Chelsea captain is ‘a doubt’ for
Ghana worldwide defender Baba Rahman put in one of his best performances for Chelsea as he excelled in the the English champions’ 4-0 hammering of Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Uefa Champions League on Tuesday night.
Hazard’s preference is in the central attacking role, but Mourinho said the 24-year-old was best out wide. “John is a special guy, with a special desire to recover”, Mourinho said.
“We already had one injury on this pitch in training with Ramires”, he told BT Sport.
Chelsea have been rocked by a double injury blow to Brazilian midfielder Ramires and club captain John Terry.
Mourinho took matters into his own hands after Gary Cahill’s opening goal, walking on to the pitch to replace loose divots but he does not rate his groundsman skills as he joked: “I think after what I did, it was worse”.
The manager and player took part in an angry exchange after the half-time whistle, with Chelsea leading 1-0 in the Champions League group tie.
“I think he is a really big doubt”.
Coupled with Porto’s home defeat to Dynamo Kiev, victory sent Chelsea to the summit of Group G which means a draw against the Portuguese outfit on 9 December will see Mourinho’s charges reach the round of 16.
“I was disappointed. I reacted and he reacted too”, said Mourinho,”At half-time in the dressing room there were a few kisses and a few cuddles”.
Maccabi kept up their attempts to penetrate the Chelsea defense, but their cause was undermined when Ben Haim was shown a red card for a wild kick on striker Diego Costa.
“They competed well in the second half with 10 men and resisted for a long time”.
Terry, who had a strong game at the heart of the Chelsea back-four, says the win was a welcome boost to the squad who still lie a distant 14 points behind surprise leaders Leicester down in 15th position. We really needed to win this match.
