OSU’s Meyer agrees with Elliott’s criticism; RB issues apology
Playing without injured star quarterback Connor Cook on a rainy and windy day at Ohio Stadium, the Spartans (10-1, 6-1 Big Ten, No. 9 CFP) took control of the Big Ten East, barged into the thick of the College Football Playoff hunt and very likely ended Ohio State’s chances to repeat as national champions.
A MI State victory will tie the Spartans (10-1, 6-1 Big Ten) for first place in the division with the victor of Saturday’s Ohio State-Michigan game. The Buckeyes have lacked the confidence and creativity that carried them to the national title, to say nothing of the carefree attitude with which they played. “I know I’m probably going to get another 64 questions on it, but it’s done”.
The Buckeyes ran 45 plays, had five first downs and their two touchdowns came after MI State turnovers game them a short field.
This Saturday will be the toughest MI team we’ve seen in years and it’s all because of one guy, Coach Harbaugh.
“I’m disappointed in the play calling”, Elliott told reporters following the game.
The good news for Buckeye’s fans, if there is any, is current starting quarterback JT Barrett should be back next season with a strong recruiting class around him, so Ohio State could bounce back quickly.
On Monday, Elliott apologized for his remarks and wrote that he was “caught up in emotions”.
“How we lost, I just feel like we weren’t put in the right opportunity to win this game, we weren’t put in the right situations to win this game”, Elliott said.
“I call a lot of the plays anyways”, Meyer said.
Elliott posted a long apology on Twitter on Monday saying, “My intentions were not to point fingers at anyone for OUR failures”. “We come out every week to win every single game”. I mean, there’s no chance of me coming back next year. Statements like these are typically made after the final game of the season, when there is no more games to be played. Elliott expressed frustration that the Buckeye coaching staff didn’t call more running plays during the loss. It is also a holiday weekend, as students may choose to change their plans in light of the fact that the game has lost some of its luster. I don’t know what they were seeing. How the Buckeyes react to a loss, Meyer says, will be a telling indicator of their collective character.
Thomas will be lining up against fantastic cornerback Jourdan Lewis for most of the afternoon, so he’ll need to have a huge bounce-back performance for Ohio State to win. “I really do”, Elliott said.
Meyer also said, “I couldn’t disagree with his comments – he should have gotten ball more”.
