AAC Championship 2015: Temple vs
Herman said Wilson would likely play both offense and defense against Temple. The Houston Cougars are 11-1 and 7-5 against the spread.
The Cougars were led by all-conference second team junior quarterback Greg Ward Jr., who totaled 148 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

The Temple Owls traveled to Houston to face off against the Cougars for the AAC Championship game. Temple also possesses the conference’s best linebacking corp. behind the team’s leading tackler in Tyler Matakevich. Temple Owls rank at 51 for 227.5 road passing yards where as Houston Cougars rank at 117 for allowing 288.4 passing yards at home.
The Cougars then extended their lead to 17-0 following another Temple punt.
The Owls’ Thomas is second in the American with 1,188 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns.
A 39-yard field goal by Austin Jones made it 24-13 early in the fourth. Fast forward to present day and Rhule has his squad primed for a big-time game and a chance to win the school’s first conference championship in 48 years. That play set up a 10-yard touchdown rush from Ward to put Houston up 24-3. Walker to Robby Anderson 13 yards out to give them some life.
Temple forced a three-and-out on Houston’s ensuing possession and appeared to seize momentum. The Owls committed four turnovers in a 22-13 loss to Houston a year ago. Ward will continue his multi-dimensional wizardry, while the defense flies all over the field to frustrate the one-note Temple attack.
The Cougars’ defense stopped the Owls three times on fourth-down plays. Ever since this season started it’s been about Houston winning the conference.
Ward used a hard cut to get past Temple defenders Matt Ioannidis and Sean Chandler at the line, then stepped past Jarred Alwan to break free. I wish we would have won, but we got down, and our kids fought back. Then again, there probably weren’t too many people who expected the Cougars to be 10-0 at one point this season, or for the Cougars to be in a position to be the Group of Five representative at either the Peach Bowl or the Fiesta Bowl.
