Man says he took human remains for religious reasons
A tenant of the apartment was cooperative with police, showing them where the bodies were stored.
The person cooperated with police and showed them where the skeletal remains were in the apartment, police said.
Amador Medina, 32, was taken into custody on charges of being a fugitive of justice in MA.
Worcester police have additionally charged Medina with five counts of disinterment of bodies, conspiracy to commit a crime and breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony.
A man accused of stealing bones from a cemetery in Worcester, Massachusetts, did so for religious reasons, police say.
The Major Crimes Division assumed immediate control of the investigation, issuing a search and seizure warrant on the property.
The suspect allegedly told police he is a practicing Santeria priest. The religion is common among Spanish-speaking regions in both North and South America. The religion uses bones for medicinal purposes. “It’s rarely seen actually”, said Hartford Police Deputy Chief Brian Foley.
A police spokesman said he didn’t know if Medina had an attorney yet.
