Patriots notebook: Rob Gronkowski joins anti-flag chorus

The New England Patriots’ shot at a flawless season has gone and Tom Brady isn’t pleased, although there was some good news for the Patriots as it emerged that Rob Gronkowski appears to have escaped serious injury. Anderson came into the season as the starter, but overall he was not as effective as he was a year ago.

A day after releasing Chris Harper, the Patriots signed wide receiver and kick return specialist Damaris Johnson to the 53-man roster.

Since losing Manning due to this injury, Brock Osweiler has taken the reigns under center and hasn’t done poorly, leading the Broncos to two straight wins.

Although Osweiler would get up, dust off the snow and keep right on going, you can bet Kubiak and general manager John Elway cringed, especially when Osweiler limped away after one hard hit.

All Peyton Manning can do now is go from week to week.

The Broncos are scoffing at a report that Brock Osweiler will be their starting quarterback for the rest of the season, saying “no decision has been made”.

And that means he’s not thinking about the status of the quarterback position and whether he or Brock Osweiler will play if he can fully recover from the foot injury.

The 25-year-old will start in place of Manning in San Diego this Sunday. His 62.3 completion percentage rating is above the league average which is 61.3 and his 7.54 yards per attempt is also above the league average. Gary Kubiak and John Elway don’t have to cross that bridge for a couple weeks at least and it’s likely that if Manning is healthy, he will get the chance to start again.

“I just want to say “thank you” to my friends and family and all the fans out there for the support the last two days”, Gronkowski said in a video to Patriots’ fans. Everybody said, ‘Well, when did he say it’s going to get better?’ When it heals.

No one really knows when it’s time to replace a legend, but Denver will have to answer that question when Peyton is healthy.
