Sugar Bowl matchup: Mississippi will play Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State University is set to play Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl on January 1. The Buckeyes were able to top Blake Sims and Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide on their way to the national championship by a score of 42-35.

The Rebels would’ve likely played in Orlando’s Citrus Bowl if Florida had defeated Alabama in the SEC title game.
Ole Miss went 9-3 this season and finished second in the SEC West.
The Rebels will play in a New Year’s Six bowl game for a second-straight year.
Oklahoma State is 12th in the country in passing attempts per game and 95th in rushing attempts per game (the latter is two spots ahead of Ole Miss). Ole Miss won, 21-7.
TCU: The Horned Frogs were a playoff contender before Big 12 champion Oklahoma beat them 30-29… Overall, Ole Miss has a 5-3 record in the Sugar Bowl, with all eight appearances coming between 1953 and 1970 under the direction of Vaught.
It’s the first such pairing under the new partnership between the bowl and the two conferences which will apply in the two years out of three when the Sugar Bowl is not a CFP semifinal. Seven of the Rebels’ last 10 postseason outings have come against teams now in the Big 12. Oklahoma State was No. 16 in the final rankings.
The second best in the SEC takes on the second best in the Big 12.
Oklahoma State has a 54-77-1 (.413) all-time mark against SEC teams, while Ole Miss is 13-12 (.520) all-time against the Big 12 (current membership).
LONG TIME, NO SEE: It’ll be the first time in a while that both these programs get to experience some fun times in the French Quarter. Both teams love to throw the ball and have star receivers Laquon Treadwell at Ole Miss and James Washington at Oklahoma State.
