UK next IS target, warns US terror expert
Britain is the next target for Islamic state (Isis) terrorism, senior European counter terrorism officials have warned within the wake of the deadly Paris attack on 13 November that left 130 people dead. “But now it’s quite clear that everybody is in peril by this group, and they’ve got to get serious about it”. Landis says that’s causing domestic political tension in the United States, because the US wants to both destroy ISIS, and overturn the regime of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.
Previous reports stated that Britain has called for an offensive against the Islamic State forces in Iraq and Syria, joining the French, Russian, Yazidi, and Kurdish fighters who are all under the U.S.-led coalition that aims to extinguish the terrorists. By targeting the oil fields, they are damaging the ability of ISIS to generate money through the sale of oil on the black market.
Tornado jets carried out first airstrikes in Syria on Thursday.
The current alert means an attack is highly likely.
Only last month the Hammersmith born and raised British jihadi, Aine Davis, was arrested in Turkey with what were said to be specific plans for a terror attack in Europe issued by ISIS commanders.
He is one of a group of British terrorists believed to have been assigned to hold foreign prisoners, alongside Emwazi, who appeared in videos showing the beheading of Western hostages.
Suraj Lakhani, an expert in radicalisation and violent extremism at Sussex University commented on his concern of British extremists taking advantage of, and radicalising young British Muslims.
But, the official said, the recent vote by the British parliament to extend its anti-IS air strikes to Syria as well as Iraq has exacerbated fears that such an attack will indeed take place. “The reality is that there is a high terror alert and there is a threat it’s (Paris Attacks) something that could happen in the United Kingdom”. What should the U.K.do to stop British citizens from coming back from training with ISIS in Syria?
