TAG Heuer boosting production of its smartwatch to meet demand
Once more, these 100,000 TAG Heuer Connected wearables are being asked by retailers, so it still hanging in the balance how many smartwatches will in fact be available to consumers. TAG Heuer has to be encouraged by the positive response that the Connected is getting from retailers so far, though, especially since this is its first entry into the still-young luxury smartwatch market.
Luxury watchmaker veteran TAG Heuer launched a $1,500 smartwatch to challenge Apple Watch. As Engadget reports, TAG took a gamble diving into the smartwatch arena, however, it’s a move that was inevitable.
CEO Jean-Claude Biver from TAG Heuer revealed recently that the production of the smartwatch TAG Heuer Connected would be increased to 2,000 per week from 1,200.
According to Biver, “Considering the success of this single and unique watch, we will develop a collection made out of different varieties, executions and materials at the end of next year or beginning of 2017”. And yes, more exclusive models could be released as well, with gold and diamonds.
This luxury smartwatch for TAG Heuer is equipped with directional wind and weather monitoring, 4GB of storage and an Intel processing chip.
What are your viewpoints about the TAG Heuer Connected as oppose to host of other wrist-worn devices on its segment? That’s particularly true keeping in mind that the offer of TAG Heuer’s of allowing Connected owners swap their smartwatch after a couple of years and pay another $1,500 to snap up an analog TAG Heuer Carrera watch. It’s interesting that despite the price there is still a lot of demand for the wearable which goes to show that maybe TAG Heuer could be onto something here.
Biver has also told Bloomberg that, along with an increase in production, the online sales of TAG Heuer Connected are being frozen until May or June 2016, so as to ensure better availability of the device in physical stores.
