Ben Roethlisberger says he doesn’t have concussion, Steelers disagrees
Roethlisberger, who has a history of playing through injuries, initially thought it was a migraine but according to head coach Mike Tomlin it’s a concussion. The Steelers saw their two-game winning streak end with a 39-30 road loss to the Seattle Seahawks as three-point underdogs, but they have won nine of the past 10 home meetings with the Colts straight up, with a 7-3 mark against the spread.
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ star quarterback took another concussion test on Wednesday morning and said trainers told him he performed well enough to practice.
Roethlisberger did suffer a concussion Sunday, per team official. Following the game, it was reported Roethlisberger was undergoing the NFL’s concussion protocol. “You have to think about the type of man, husband and father you want to be when you are done playing”, he told reporters yesterday, “because this is such a short part of our lives”. “If I have these brain injuries, it’s not worth it”.
Clearly Roethlisberger and the Steelers were not on the same page, which is very concerning considering the magnitude of the concussion protocol. It’s the second consecutive week the league’s new concussion-spotting system has come under fire after Rams quarterback Case Keenum was allowed to stay in the game the previous week after apparently suffering a head injury. “They said Ben, ‘It’s fine.’ You’re ready to practice'”.
We are blessed to be able to stand on a big platform and reach a lot of people.
He said players in years past “weren’t smart” when hiding such symptoms. “If you’re asking how I’m feeling, it’s not too good, but you always feel a little better when you win, especially on your birthday”, Wilson added. Obviously, whether that’s Coach Tomlin or another doctor, they said you’re not clear. He’s been cleared of the concussion he was feared to have had in the Seahawks game, but that doesn’t mean he’ll jump right back into the action.
On the fifth play of a 14-play scoring drive, Roethlisberger took a high-low hit from Seahawks pass-rushers Michael Bennett and Bruce Irvin, which resulted in a roughing-the-passer call. The quarterback-turned-wide receiver has agreed to sign with Cleveland, a person familiar with the decision told the Associated Press on Tuesday.
Roethlisberger admitted if he was a first- or second-year player in the league he would not have taken himself out of the game. “It’s sad. I don’t want my teammates when you have reunions….”
Meantime, Tomlin said cornerback Antwon Blake and nickel back Ross Cockrell struggled with tackling and coverage against the Seahawks and will consider changes there for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.
