Hillary Clinton Proposes A Tax Break To Caregivers, Suggests Social Security
She is proposing a new federal tax credit that would offset some of what people spend to care for an elderly or disabled relative.
The Clinton campaign said that in Iowa this weekend, Clinton will build on her previously announced plans and propose additional tax cuts for middle-class families.
Clinton’s campaign says she is committed to cutting taxes for the middle class and criticized some of Sanders’ proposals, such as his health-care plan, saying it would necessitate raising taxes on moderate wage earners. “He’s a teacher. He takes his mother to work with him”, she said at the Iowa Jefferson-Jackson dinner in October.
“We need to recognize the value of the work that caregivers give to all of us, both those who are paid and the great number who are unpaid”, Hillary said during the town hall, according to The Associated Press.
She has received tens of millions of dollars in speaking fees, donations to the Clinton family foundation and campaign cash from Wall Street in her political career.
“I want to make it possible for you and all of you to not only be able to start and but to continue and graduate and do it without so much debt that you can’t get on with your life”, Clinton said. But, in answering a question about veterans’ health care, she accused conservatives of seeking to use the issue to privatize the system.
“I think she’s really hit on the idea that sometimes people are working and their work isn’t valued”, said Engle, a school counselor.
Do you support Hillary Clinton’s proposal to extend tax breaks to caregivers while taxing higher-income group? The senator is in the midst of a three-day swing through SC, a state where he lags far behind Clinton in the polls, as he acknowledged. Clinton has said she will introduce another way to pay for a paid leave program that does not raise taxes on middle-class families. She also vowed to put caps on prescription drug costs for Americans with chronic health conditions – something that would affect drug companies nonetheless – and to increase competition for prescription drugs, including specialty ones like biologics, and allow drugs to be imported into the us from overseas. Clinton says there needs to be more financial support for people who are caregivers to elderly family members or people with disabilities. Clinton and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley were also expected to address the crowd.
