IU Football will play in Pinstripe Bowl
IU will play Duke on Saturday, December 26 in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium in NY.
Although just three members of Cutcliffe’s squad hail from the Empire State, Duke has a large alumni base in NY.
This will be Indiana’s first appearance in a bowl game since 2007 when the team lost to Oklahoma State in the Insight Bowl, 49-33. “At Duke, we take great pride in representing the Atlantic Coast Conference, and doing so against a program of Indiana’s caliber will be a challenge which we will embrace”, Cutcliffe said in the release. The Hoosiers finished the regular season with a 6-6 record, including a 38-35 home victory over Western Kentucky on September 19, and a 54-36 win at Purdue on November 28, in the traditional Old Oaken Bucket game.
Duke: Safety Jeremy Cash, ACC defensive player of the year and team leader with 101 tackles; QB Thomas Sirk, who has thrown for 2,462 yards and 15 touchdowns and rushed for a team-leading 648 yards. This is the 10th bowl appearance in IU history.
Quarterback Nate Sudfeld leads an IN offense with a penchant for putting up points.
The Hoosiers’ last bowl win came in 1991 with a 24-0 victory over Baylor in the Copper Bowl.
So here is what you need to know about the Duke Blue Devils. The goal this year is to put an end to that streak.
The Blue Devils are heading to their program-best 4th straight bowl game this postseason, and this year Duke Football will face off against the Indiana Hoosiers in the 2015 New Era Pinstripe Bowl. “We are excited to bring Hoosier Nation to the Big Apple for the holidays as “Candy Stripes go Pinstripes” on December 26″.
The fact that both IN and Duke have fans that historically travel well to basketball games IN NY made both schools an attractive option for the Pinstripe Bowl.
Well, this season we get a pretty intriguing match up between the Duke Blue Devils and Indiana Hoosiers. “Coach Wilson and I just told the team and they are very excited”. “We’re excited to be playing in New York City and at hallowed Yankee Stadium, which will certainly make for a most memorable holiday season experience for our many Hoosier alumni and friends residing in the region”.
