Eminem Sends Tupac’s Mother Sentimental Letter And Sketch
The Detroit rap star once penned a letter and illustration that he sent to Pac’s mom, Afeni Shakur, which recently surfaced on Reddit. Before closing, he says “[Tupac] gave me the courage to stand up and say, “F**k the world!’ “This is who I am!”
Eminem has always been a proud supporter of Tupac Shakur, and now those feelings are being showcased in an emotional letter from the days following the late rapper’s death. “But I’ve been drawing since I was 10 and I thought you might like it”. While Tupac was there for Eminem, maybe the next great artist will thank Marshall in the same way, saying his music was there for them at their lowest.
Both Mather’s letter and the drawing appear on display at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center of Art in Georgia, as well as in the 2008 collection of stories Tupac Remembered. “You will always be in my heart, my thought, and my prayers. He was, and still is, the true definition of a “Soldier” Eminem wrote.
A freshly-unearthed letter reveals how Eminem found inspiration in the music of Tupac Shakur during some of his darkest times.
Eminen penned the heartfelt message a few years after Tupac’s sudden passing in ’96 and it includes touching passages like “You are a true Queen, and I mean that in every sense of the word”. The letter also included a drawing Eminem created of the “All Eyez on Me” hitmaker with his signature bandanna.
He even closes out the letter by thanking Afeni for giving us Tupac’s spirit, as well as her own, before signing it off with “Love, Marshall”.
Eminem’s debut record, the often overlooked Infinite, was released during November of 1996, just two months after Shakur was killed in Las Vegas.
