4-year-old cancer patient marries nurse at NY hospital
A 4-year-old cancer patient in New York “married” her favorite nurse Thursday in an adorable ceremony that is going viral.
The pint-sized bride, who is battling a rare form of leukemia, had asked to marry her nurse and he was only too happy to oblige.
Abby’s groom wore a tuxedo T-shirt. Abby had told her mom about her intentions to marry Matt Hickling, one of the nurses at Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at AMC.
‘We sealed the deal with ring pops being placed on our fingers!
“Will you marry me?” she asks Hickling.
Talking about the wedding, he shared that they had fantastic bridesmaids. Abby’s mom said the friendships the nurses and doctors have built with Abby have made her more willing to come to the hospital.
The ceremony included wedding cake, donated flowers from a local florist, Enchanted Gardens, and even a special toy auto reading “Just Married” that Matt pushed Abby in before returning for photos and cake.
And then, she decided it was time to pop the question. I’m David Muir. Hope to see you on Monday.
Abby received a frame with a picture of her and Matt inside that was signed by the center’s entire staff. She said it was “the best day ever”. But she still has to go to the center for maintenance treatments to keep the symptoms at bay. “She can look back on it when she’s older and be really just touched by it”. “I know I will!” says Matt Hickling in his Facebook page.
