Delhi govt’s odd-even quantity automobiles comes beneath assault in RS
With 50% of Delhi’s private vehicles taken off road, the public transport needs to be made more efficient.
Delhi Government announced the new rule for Odd-Even Car rule in Delhi.
The Delhi Government has passed a bill which will restrict cars with even and odd numbers to run on alternate days.
A day after the Delhi government released the details of the odd-even number plate formula to curb pollution in the capital, a public interest litigation was filed in the Delhi High Court on the matter.
According to the plan, odd-numbered vehicles will be allowed on the streets on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Delhi’s Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Sunday said that cars with odd number plates will be allowed to run on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while cars with even number plates will ply on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. “We don’t want to see a law and order situation and the Government of India should issue an advisory on this”, he said, adding that other countries implemented such an idea after developing public transport. On a personal level use of bicycles instead of motorcycles or cars for traversing short distances go a long way in reducing overall air pollution. Delhi is the most polluted city in India. Other wise everyone have to follow the rule. People are suffering from many diseases like asthma and many more breathing disease.
“Odd-Even components will even be relevant on all ministers and officers”.
Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken said his party was not opposed to the move “as an idea”, but added, the odd-even vehicle number formula is “pre-mature” and “ill-conceived” without preparations.
“We need to work together to ensure the success of the programme for our children’s sake”, the Minister said.
“I consider there’s demand to develop a fresh thought to take care of traffic and air pollution”, Yuquan said. This step, however odd it may sound, can get really beneficial for bus aggregation startups like Shuttl and ZipGo, who can jump on the opportunity to offer their services to more people now.
