Driver distracted by woman fatally strikes man on bike
Investigators tracked down the woman, who told them she was giving Allen oral sex in the vehicle when he struck something.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the fatal-hit-and-run of 49-year-old Terry Lamunt Ross, a homeless man riding his bicycle on the shoulder of Highway 92 in unincorporated Auburndale on Saturday. Driving from there, he said he remembered hitting something with the side of his auto, but he thought it was a stop sign or a guardrail.
The witness remained at the scene for the full length of time it took to give the Polk Sheriff’s deputies a detailed description of the crash, as well as the suspect and his truck. It’s not known whether he has an attorney.
Ross was positively identified through fingerprint analysis, and his out-of-town family members were notified about his death.
Allen’s green Ford F250 pickup truck, was spotted leaving the scene and was eventually discovered, damaged and blood stained, at a local pub. The truck had damage to the front passenger headlight assembly, the hood and passenger side “consistent with the aforementioned crash”, according to the arrest report. There were also blood stains on the passenger side door.
Allen met the woman at Midway Lounge. He said he was distracted by his female passenger when he hit the bicyclist, according to PCSO.
Deputies said he was slurring his words and appeared to have been drinking, Horstman said.
A woman was performing a sex act on Randy Joe Allen, 54, when she heard a bump.
The female passenger was interviewed at the Royal Inn Motel in Winter Haven.
He is charged in connection to the hit-and-run and could face additional charges pending toxicology results.
Allen has seven prior arrests in Polk.
