Ant-Man villain Corey Stoll reveals why he loves motion capture
Still, this is the first no-doubt-about-it reference to our own friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. First, the premise is more cartoonish than comic book and it can be a little difficult to really embrace a miniature man saving the world. But this space is where MARVEL has really done well – taking a character like IRON MAN or a crew like the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and turning them into billion-dollar household names that are totally believable on screen. Paul Rudd as Scott Lange works as the every man thrown into an amazing situation.
In 2005, Rudd starred in film “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” with Carell, who played the title role, Leslie Mann, Jane Lynch, Elizabeth Banks and Seth Rogen, among others. The film has wit, humor and awesome comedic timing. The ants are mostly CGI, however, and I thought they made charming side characters. However, there are slight differences between the two. These characters provide that burst of energy and laughter that makes the film quite lovable not just for the adults, but also the kiddies as well.
But Hank Pym (Michael Douglas, “Last Vegas”) needs someone to stop Darren Cross (Corey Stoll, “House of Cards“) from weaponizing the Ant-Man suit and dooming all of humanity.
Some could argue Hank is a bitter old guy, who has come to that point in his life where he is reflecting on all that has gone wrong.
As Pym’s sort-of estranged daughter Hope, Canadian Evangeline Lillysports a dark bob and steps nimbly into the role of the brainiac scientist, whose ninja skills mean she’s tasked with trying to teach Scott how to defend himself in or out of the Ant-Man suit.
With its delightful mix of comedy, action and drama in a genre that is a mix of superhero, science fiction and heist movie, Ant-Man succeeds to entertain beyond expectations. When Rudd shrinks down we are drawn into a whole new world of giant carpet pile and huge ants and it’s hard not to get involved with the insects – you’ll never look at them in the same way again. ABC7 News reporter Leyla Gulen traveled to Walt Disney Studios in Burbank to meet up with the stars of the newest addition to the Marvel Universe – “Ant-Man“. Normally, I would never advocate seeing a flick in 3D that wasn’t shot in that dimension, but for this flick I would make the exception.
He may be only the size of an ant, but there are big expectations for “Ant-Man“, the lighthearted superhero saga opening Friday. It has unique characters, plenty of laughs, a hero that audiences will love and action and visual effects to appeal to all. With a team of fantastically amusing writers, Ant-Man is the epitome of a fun summer movie.
