Boston police probing fight involving 76ers center Okafor

Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jahlil Okafor was involved in a street fight Wednesday night in Boston.

Philadelphia, with a woeful 0-16 win-loss record, has lost 26 straight games dating back to last season and is the first team in league history to start at 0-16 in consecutive years.

TMZ posted cellphone video of the altercation on Thursday, showing Okafor yelling and later shoving a man.

Boston police had initially said they did not plan to investigate the incident since everyone involved had left the scene before cops arrived.

“This is not something that we dismiss”, Brown said. Okafor threw a punch that decked the alleged heckler to the ground.

Okafor said the embarrassment is the toughest part about the situation.

According to a statement issued Friday evening by Boston police, a man filed a police report Friday morning stating he was the victim of assault and battery outside the Storyville nightclub on Exeter Street in Boston at around 2 a.m. Thursday. “But if the victim wants to come forward and file a police report, he or she is encouraged to do so”. He said the team won’t change how it handles players following games. So far, they have not been able to overcome that task, but it seems unlikely that any team, even them, could ever an entire season without winning a game. Okafor, who helped lead the Duke Blue Devils to a national championship this past April, was drafted with the third overall pick in June and has averaged 18.4 points and 8.1 rebounds in 33.4 minutes per game. “He’s going to have to, like all of us, navigate through National Basketball Association worlds and National Basketball Association environments with a level of responsibility”.

“Jahlil (Okafor) knows if he had to (tell him about an altercation) again he would walk”, he said.

“We’ve heard some things, but in fairness to everybody here, there’s not much more we’re going to comment on, at this point”.

According to the same TMZ report, the altercation was instigated when one of the men from the other group shouted; “The 76ers suck” and with Okafor’s group reacting to the hecklers. The Sixers rookie said he was being heckled.
