Harry Arter hails Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe for sticking to principles
At 38, Cherries hero Howe is one of the Premier League’s youngest managers and he has gone from strength to strength in charge of the club for whom he made over 250 appearances as a player.
Chelsea’s disastrous season got even worse as substitute Glenn Murray headed Bournemouth to a 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
“It’s good that our philosophy, which has been criticised, has come out on top”.
Murray was delighted with Bournemouth’s performance and felt they had an ideal strategy to pick up a win over the Premier League champions. But we saw it out and nicked the goal to thankfully get a much-needed three points.
The online bookmaker enhanced the odds on United, Leicester and Arsenal all winning from 7/2 to 11/2 and it came down to Louis van Gaal’s side needing a goal after leaders Leicester and second-placed Gunners had their results against Swansea and Sunderland in good shape with around half an hour to play.
“I thought we were magnificent defensively, our goalkeeper [Artur Boruc] played a big part in that”.
“Personally I am delighted to keep a clean sheet – that’s very important to me”. Just as it would have been harsh to give a penalty when Diego Costa’s cross hit the arm of Simon Francis. “His arm’s there, it’s not moved towards the ball”. We come here and I don’t think we expect anything out of these games so we have done great.
Premier League champions Chelsea’s fall from grace continued with a humiliating defeat by lowly Bournemouth yesterday after Leicester City’s improbable title challenge was bolstered by a 3-0 victory at Swansea City. “We did that and I am sure that will be most pleasing for all of the lads”. The Cherries started out the season as the most exciting of the three promoted teams this season, but injuries have left them badly depleted and struggling for any kind of positive form.
“We dominated the game but one refereeing mistake cost us”, Mourinho said.
Bournemouth are now unbeaten in three – and were unfortunate to go down 1-0 to Newcastle before that – and they will be in buoyant mood ahead of Manchester United’s visit.
Matt Ritchie said: “I wouldn’t have thought they’d fancy it. We’ll try to make it a tough game for them”.
