Colts vs. Steelers final score: Pittsburgh offense blows up, crushes
The Steelers (7-5) moved a game ahead of the Colts (6-6) while keeping pace with the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC wild-card race.
But that would be unfaithful to what we’ve actually seen from this Colts team for most of this season, and it wouldn’t take the context of this season into consideration. “It was downhill from there” described Coach Pagano “We got beat thoroughly in all three phases”.
To punctuate the thrashing, Brown took a punt back 71 yards for the final touchdown and launched himself spread-eagle into the goal-post support, apparently to reward Twitter for paying attention. Roethlisberger has a running back (DeAngelo Williams) who quietly rushed for 134 yards, which were oddly camouflaged by all the splash plays in the passing game. He returned after both hits, but was subbed out for third-stringer Charlie Whitehurst with six minutes left and the game well out of reach. “Today we showed that”.
Ben Roethlisberger would love to play the Indianapolis Colts more often and so would the Steelers. The Steelers managed to force two interceptions and a sack resulting in a fumble. You know what I’m saying?
The Indianapolis Colts had another tough time against Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“He’s extremely fast, quick”, Pagano said, via ESPN.com. He finished 16-of-26 for 169 yards with one touchdown, two interceptions and the lost fumble.
Hasselbeck, 40 and the NFL’s oldest non-kicker, was yanked from the game in the fourth quarter and it was reported he was dealing with shoulder and neck injuries.
“I tried to stick it at the end with the goal post and it wasn’t something that went very well”, he told The Associated Press with a laugh. “I’m disappointed in how I played”.
Adam Vinatieri slotted over from 35 yards to hand Indianapolis a slim lead, but after Hasselbeck was intercepted for a second time in the first quarter, Chris Boswell converted two field goals to give the hosts a 6-3 advantage at the first break.
The Steelers started it when Jacoby Jones fumbled away the opening kickoff at the 11. He lobbed a pass at the goal line that linebacker Jarvis Jones snatched out of the air for his first career interception. His 68-yard touchdown pass to Martavis Bryant early in the third quarter gave the Steelers a 28-10 lead.
At this point, the only bright spot for the Colts is Frank Gore, who continues to put in a great effort each week; on Sunday, he had 94 total yards and a touchdown.
The Steelers happen to have some pretty good weapons on offense and they were able to use all of them freely without fear of any pressure reaching their quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger found Markus Wheaton with 10 seconds left in the half and the Steelers went into the locker room with a 21-10 lead.
Meanwhile, the Colts continue to wait for the return of starter Andrew Luck, who’s missed five games this season, including the past three with a lacerated kidney and partially-torn abdomen.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown (84) is tackled by Indianapolis Colts inside linebacker D’Qwell Jackson (52) during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, in Pittsburgh.
Roethlisberger provided the exclamation point with a 48-yard pass to Brown, three plays before the wide receiver hauled in his second touchdown catch. He also had three receptions for 49 yards and a touchdown, leading the team in receiving.
