A window into Ben Carson’s visits with Syrian refugees in Jordan
Also, text highlights and a transcript of the discussion are below.
Carson recently likened such refugees to rabid dogs.
“They are satisfied to be in the refugee camps if the refugee camps are adequately funded”. Its really quite impressive when you go over there and see it, Carson told the AP, adding that some areas had recreational facilities, schools, electricity and indoor plumbing.
“Is that going to be easier from a neighboring country or is that going to be easier from the United States of America?” he said on “This Week”. Would it be better to integrate them into society?
“The people I talked to don’t want to stay there”, Raddatz insisted. Well, you know, you have to go there and see for yourself. But first, your reaction to what happened in Colorado Springs. He suggested that if we “get rid of the rhetoric from either side and actually talk about the facts” it would be easier to prevent other similar tragedies from happening elsewhere. “Or are we going to keep giving them things piecemeal”. After the visit, the convoy headed to the Zaatari refugee camp.
Hundreds of thousands of refugees from Syria and other war-torn countries have poured into Europe since January, fleeing the carnage in their homelands, the vast majority from Syria. But in the meantime, the facilities that have been offered to them here in Jordan are very satisfactory. They don’t have enough money. “We spent $3 billion on Halloween candy”. “You’ve got these refugee camps that aren’t completely full”.

Carson said absorbing the refugees is “not solving the problem”.
And, again, I was a little bit surprised with the answer, because it wasn’t what we’re hearing a lot.
Carson also told NBC that individuals on both sides of the abortion debate should dial down their rhetoric in the wake of a shooting spree at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado that killed three people. “That’s how we solve problems”. More importantly, this gave Dr. Carson the opportunity to meet Syrians first-hand and listen to their stories. That’s what various polls are showing, various q polls.
Host John Dickerson asked Carson if he was talking about starting a national fundraising campaign. It really isn’t about me.
The State Department says half the Syrians cleared to move to the United States are children and only 2% are single men of combat age.
Carson visited two camps while in Jordan, a short “fact-finding” trip seemingly meant to help him establish credibility on an issue that has deeply divided Americans. However in reality his stance on not wanting them to come to the U.S. does not seem to have changed in the slightest.
BRIANNA: what informed you on this trip about what ISIS poses to American security? “And we need to be looking at mechanisms that already exist”.
He continued: “Until it is safe for them to return home, Jordan is a safe place for them to wait”. Do you agree with that?
