GasBuddy.com says refinery issues are primarily the reason for the increase, but “rest assured lower prices will be coming back in the weeks ahead”.
Lower prices for oil are pushing down the price of gasoline, travel club AAA said.
Last week prices dropped under the Greek debt crisis and the announcement of an historic nuclear deal with Iran. There have been three named tropical storms, but none has threatened the oil-production region.
Meanwhile, motorists are continuing to experience prices far below what they were paying last summer.
According to AAA, gas prices have been on the downward trend since peaking in mid-June.
The average price of gas was $2.44 a gallon, 11.1 cents per gallon less than the week before.
